It is essential that everyone runs in the right type of running shoe. The first step to finding the right type of shoe is to be aware of the type of foot that you have. There are three main types of feet. These include: flat feet, high-arched feet and neutral feet.

Countless people around the world are afflicted with flat feet. Having flat feet is actually a medical condition that is referred to as fallen arches. This medical condition occurs when the arch of the foot collapses. When this occurs the entire sole of the foot makes contact with the ground. It is estimated that a little less than one third of the population is flat footed.

People who have flat feet need a specific type of running shoe, this is because flat feet tend to roll inwards when a person runs. Usually, the best athletic shoes for these people are motion control shoes. Motion control running shoes offer a great deal of strength and support. These shoes support the increased movement of a flat foot and provide extra support while running.

Another foot type is the high-arched foot. People that have high arches tend to have increased movement when they run. This movement is similar to flat-footed people, only in the opposite direction. Runners with high arches tend to need flexible running shoes. This is as a result of their feet rolling inwards when they run.

The third main foot type is the neutral foot type. Individuals with neutral feet do not need a specific type of athletic shoe for running. Any shoe that boasts a large amount of support and cushioning will work great for neutral footed individuals.

After considering foot type it is best to consider how much running is completed each week. The amount of running that the shoes will support is an important factor in choosing the right type of running shoes.

Some people walk every day, while other people run. Some of these runners are short distance athletes, while others are long distance runners and they all need different types of shoes.

Walkers need a basic shoe. They do not need something that has extra support or cushioning, unless they have a certain problem with their feet. On the other hand, sprinters need highly cushioned and supportive shoes just like long distance runners.

The final factor that is important to consider when purchasing running shoes is age and gender. Children’s, men’s and women’s shoes can all vary slightly. This is because men, women and children all have different types of feet.

Finally, to really find the best pair of running shoes it is important to consult a running shoe professional. Shoe professionals will be able to analyze both your foot and your running style. He or she will determine your foot type and your appropriate size. This analysis is sure to lead anyone to the right pair of athletic shoes for any gender and foot type.

Purchasing anything new can be a lot of fun, but it can also be very frustrating. Purchasing a pair of Running shoes is no different, and do the nature of our bodies I wouldn’t recommend rushing into a pair of shoes just because they are cheap or convenient.

No two people have exactly the same foot; however manufactures have divided shoes into three different categories: Cushioning, Stability, and Motion Control. Within these three categories their can be a lot of variation, but it is a good base guide to start with.

Cushioning – Cushioning shoes are shoes that have little to no lateral support. These shoes are good for runners who do not need this support, and have neutral feet. Generally this type of shoe will be for the runner with a high arch. Instances where this type of shoe is not right is in a case where you are a pronator or an overpronator.

Stability – Stability shoes are a mid range shoe category which offer a balance between cushioning and motion control. This shoe is for a runner who has a normal arch, lands on the outside of the foot and rolls forward. If you are unsure of where else to be this category is a good place to start.

Motion Control – The motion control category is for runners who really need support in a running shoe. Extreme pronators and overpronators can take advantage of a Motion control shoe, as well as a runner with weak ankles and other foot problems that would benefit from a shoe with a lot of stability.

Of course with only three categories like I mentioned above, there is a lot of room for variation. This is only meant to be used as a quick guide for things to look for in running shoes. I would recommend visiting a running store and having an employee look at your feet to give you a good idea of what category your feet fit in. If you have serious foot complications like extreme pronation, fallen arches, etc I would recommend visiting a foot doctor, as running shoes by themselves might not be enough. You could require orthotics, or even just simple strengthening exercises to get and keep you on your feet.

Runners don’t have it easy at all. The sport of running is extremely rough on the joints in your legs and your feet. You need to choose a shoe that will take care of your joints and feet, not hurt them. I’ll be talking about ways to go about choosing a shoe that will take care of you and not hurt you. New Balance makes great running shoes and their shoe the New Balance 991 is a great shoe that is great for joints and your feet. This is just one of the many shoes that you can choose to help make your running experiences better.

The first thing you should do before choosing a shoe is know your weaknesses. If you have a bad knee, you need to take that into consideration when buying a shoe. Make sure you tell the person working at the shoe store that you have a bad knee and they may be able to recommend something for you. You may have arthritis in your ankles or knees as well. The New Balance 991 is great for ankles and feet. Many runners have noticed problems decrease with the 991. All of these issues need to be addressed so you can choose a shoe that wont hurt you.

Another thing that’ll help you choose shoes that won’t hurt you is the price. Cheap shoes are cheap for a reason. Poorly put together shoes usually amounts to blisters, sores and just sore feet and knees in general. If you see a running shoe advertised for under twenty dollars I wouldn’t buy it. Chances are you’ll end up with more problems than it’s worth. The New Balance 991 is a shoe that matches good cost with great performance.

The last way to choose shoes that won’t hurt you is research. This really can’t be stressed enough. Pick up a magazine, go to the internet, do some type of research to figure out what makes a good shoe. The differences between a nice shoe and a terrible shoe can be pretty broad. Knowing what your dealing with before going in will help you immensely. I’ve done a ton of research and can say with authority that the New Balance 991 is a great shoe. It could be what you are looking for in a running shoe.

In closing, having sore feet is a terrible feeling. Have sores on your feet could be worse. In order to avoid this you need to know your weaknesses, understand that low cost is sometimes bad, good research is great and your well on your way. Once again, I believe the New Balance 991 is a superior shoe that deserves a look when deciding on a shoe that won’t hurt you.

In the past, one type of shoe served all the purposes a wearer would want it to be. A good pair of rubber shoes was all that was needed for running, walking, jumping, skipping and other similar activities. Those shoes weren’t the flashy ones we see today, but they were durable enough to be worn anywhere they were required. Today, shoe manufacturers churn out shoes that are designed for particular purposes such as running, walking and any activity in between. There are many factors that should be considered in choosing running or walking shoes.

Running shoes are primarily designed for best performance while walking shoes are made for their appeal to walkers. And for those who are seriously into these activities, the type of shoes they wear matters a lot. Each type of shoe is designed for only one sport or activity. Wearing a pair of walking shoes in place of running shoes may compromise your running performance and vice versa.

For runners, preventing injury while running is important. For this reason, they should wear running shoes that provide the right kind of protection. These shoes are designed for different types of feet such as high-arched, normal-arched and flat footed. High-arched feet need cushioning shoes; normal-arched feet need shoes with basic cushioning, stability and motion control features. Flat footed people should wear shoes that have solid arch curvature that provide excellent motion-control. This helps prevent the excessive rolling of the ankle when the heel strikes the ground.

If you are an average runner, your best choice is stability shoes because they provide the best comfort as these do not create a specific stride. If you consider yourself an elite runner, your best option is the lightweight type of training shoes.

Walking shoes on the other hand should be flexible and allow you to bend and twist them. They should have a flat and not flared heel. This is important because when you walk, the heel strikes the ground first and flat heels promote rolling motion that can ease lower back pain that most walkers complain about.
Expensive Athletic Shoes For Kids – Should You Get Them?

Nowadays it is not unusual for kids to have athletic shoes costing well over 100 dollars. This article sheds some light as to whether or not we should really buy our kids these expensive shoes.

Athletic shoes have become a billion dollar industry over the past three decades. They have gone from simple rubber bottomed sneakers to ultra high tech marvels of engineering that cost shoe companies tens of millions of dollars to develop.

One side effect of the ever growing technology driven athletic footwear market is the sky rocketing cost for each pair. It is most noticeable when we get our children new sports sneakers.

Nowadays it is not unusual for kids to have athletic shoes costing well over 100 dollars. This article sheds some light as to whether or not we should really buy our kids these expensive shoes.

The athletic shoe industry has exploded over the last few decades. Now more than ever we are faced with literally thousands of shoes for all kinds of sports. If your child has some track activities at school he has to wear track shoes. If your daughter is playing basketball she will need the latest pair from Nike.

Not only that, but during the past few years different shoes for the same sports have become increasingly common. A good example would be soccer which can be played both indoor and outdoor. If your fifth grader is playing on both locations he will need two types of shoes! Running shoes come also in varieties all suited for different surfaces.

A very big predicament among parents is that to keep up with their children’s growth they’ll be buying shoes as often as every quarter! This suddenly makes the cost of multiple athletic shoes for your child a huge burden. Imagine unloading 200 to 400 dollars every three months for your kids’ shoes alone.

Of course we all know that your child can live without these shoes. But in keeping up with the Joneses you can’t help but give your child the best. The littlest edge is all that it takes for your kid to outperform another kid in sports.

So should you invest in this ever growing cost of athletic foot wear for your child? Fortunately there is a way to compromise both cost and your kid’s performance in sports.

What parents should do is to invest slowly as their kids grows with their chosen sports. A good example would be to buy a cheaper or value based shoes when your kids are still starting out their new sport. This is good because as many mothers know their children can go in and get out of their chosen sports anytime.

What might be even better is to borrow old shoes from their siblings or cousins when they get into a new sport. If they begin to really get into the sport then you should begin buying them their own shoes.

As they accomplish more and more in their respective sports you can begin investing in shoes that give an edge. It is very important to let them feel that new shoes are rewards and not necessary privileges they have the right into acquiring.

This gives them an incentive to perform well while preventing them from getting spoiled. Also reinforce them so that they do not think that shoes are the main ingredient to their success in athletics.

To close remember to start your children with the cheapest shoes you can acquire. Make them feel that their success in their sports do not rest in what they wear on their feet but instead lie in hard work and practice. But as they grow deeper into their sport, reward them increasingly with new gear. This is for them to develop their self esteem as well as their motivation.

You never know, those thousands of dollars you’ll spend on his running shoes might make him the next Usain Bolt!

Long time runner Engr. Al Kind writes about cushion running shoe reviews. The type of running shoes for those with high arches on their feet. He also recommends the best running shoes flat feet people need as well.

Everyone has that old pair of running shoes with their soles warn down, lining ripped out, and arches gone but they just wont throw away. Although you may be sentimental about an old pair of shoes there comes a point where you need to throw in the towel and buying a new pair of running shoes. Trust me, your feet and back will thank you when you realize how much more support you are getting with a new shoe pair of running shoes. Although it may seem like all running shoes seem basically the same, this is not the case. There are many factors that go into making a shoe that every runner should know in order to figure out what shoe is best for their feet. The following is a list of things to look for when buying a new pair of running shoes.

1. When you run you want to be able to easily bend your forefoot while keeping the rest of your foot stabilized. An easy way to check for this is to try and bend the shoe. If the shoe easily bends in half at the middle of the sole then this is not a stabilizing shoe. However, if the shoe bends at the forefoot then the shoe passes the first test.

2. It is important that a running shoe is able to maximally support your foot in order to prevent ankle sprains. A quick test to check this is to grasp the shoe at the front and back and then try at twist the ends in opposite directions. There should be a fairly good amount of resistance to twisting or the shoe will not help prevent you from twisting an ankle.

3. To test the support of your heel a quick test is to try and push in on the left and right walls of the back of the shoe, above the heel. You should not be able to push in much because this part of the shoe should be able to resist these forces in order to stabilize your foot.

When you finally decide to get rid of that old pair of running shoes, remember to perform these simple tests in order to see which shoe is going to provide you the most support. If you have questions about which shoe will be best for your foot type then you will want to consult with a podiatrist. Most podiatrists keep a list in their office of which shoes are quality and which shoes are good for people with varying foot types and mechanics. A podiatrist can be a helpful tool in helping choose a shoe that is going to maximally support your feet in order to prevent injury.

Dr. Andrew Schneider is a podiatrist in private practice in Houston, TX. He is dedicated to maintaining the health and safety of the feet of athletes and return them to their sport as soon as possible after injury.
